Not all punctures are repairable under BS AU 159 guidelines.
The Repairable Zone
A tyre can be repaired only if:
- Damage is within the central ¾ of tread width
- Puncture diameter ≤ 6mm (passenger vehicles)
- No sidewall damage
- No structural ply separation
Internal Inspection Protocol
A professional repair includes:
- Full demount from rim
- Internal liner inspection
- Removal of foreign object
- Injury channel preparation
- Vulcanised plug-patch combination repair
“String plugs” inserted externally are temporary only.
Why Sidewall Damage Cannot Be Repaired
The sidewall:
- Flexes continuously
- Has no steel belt reinforcement
- Experiences highest stress concentration
Repairing it compromises structural integrity and can lead to catastrophic failure.
